How to prepare your hair for summer

With the first real summer temperatures approaching and the summer holidays just around the corner, it’s time to get your hair summer-ready. Because healthy, shiny hair will still be a trend in summer 2025.

Here are the most important tips:

1. Start with a good foundation

Before heading off on holiday, it’s a good idea to visit your hairdresser to trim any split ends. This gives you a strong, healthy base to begin with.

It’s also recommended to maintain a good hair care routine all year round. That way, your hair is better protected against harmful influences such as chlorine, salt water and sun/UV-damage.

2. Hair hydration tips

Just like your skin, your hair benefits from proper hydration. Make sure to drink enough water — about 1.5 to 2 liters a day. Be aware that on very hot days, you may need even more.

Hydrated hair is shinier and more flexible. Besides drinking water, it’s also essential to nourish your hair externally with hydrating products like hair oil, conditioner and hair masks. Choose natural products that won’t dry your hair out.

3. Healthy hair from the inside out

In our previous blogs, we discussed which foods contribute to a healthy head of hair — and this also applies in summer. Choose ingredients rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, and biotin. Don’t have time to prepare healthy meals? You can also use our hair vitamins to supplement any deficiencies.

4. Protect your hair from sun and heat

Just like your skin, your (colored) hair can suffer from UV radiation. It’s best to avoid direct sun between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. when UV rays are strongest. Consider protecting your scalp and hair with a hat, bandana or cap.

5. Avoid styling tools

Because your hair is often already under stress in the summer due to UV rays, chlorine, and sea salt, it’s best to avoid heat-styling tools. If you do use them, always apply a heat protector like our NR.04 Ultimate Oil to minimize damage.

6. Swimming & hair health

For many, summer holidays mean swimming in the sea or pool. Unfortunately, chlorine and salt water are damaging to your hair. A good tip is to rinse your hair with fresh water before swimming — this helps your hair absorb fewer harmful substances. Rinsing afterward is also very important.
